Pixi Large Lash Mascara Review

I was very excited when the Pixi Large Lash Mascara arrived in a recent Pixi Beauty PR box. I have yet to try many Pixi makeup items, and am always on the hunt for a more affordable mascara that delivers results. I tend to have bad luck with drugstore mascaras, and for a while I thought it was just in my head and me thinking I was strictly a ~high end~ beauty gal (which I definitely used to think!! *eye roll*)

BUT in recently trying out a drugstore mascara I was reminded why I didn’t like them and tended to not try them often. They ALWAYS flake on me. I hate. The higher end mascaras I’ve tried don’t. Maybe that’s pure coincidence? But it’s been my experience.

Either way, I was excited to give this a try and crossed my fingers that it’s more affordable price tag wouldn’t lead it to behave the same way all drugstore mascaras have for me.

PS – this product was gifted by Pixi!

Average Reviews

At Target, the Pixi Large Lash Mascara has an average rating of 4.4/5 stars from 40 reviews.

It’s highly rated on the Pixi website as well….but looks like everything is highly rated on there so I’m not quite sure that is all that reliable.

Ingredient Highlights

From Pixi:

  • Vitamin E nourishes
  • Panthenol strengthens lashes
  • Bamboo Extract fortifies & helps to retain moisture

Other Deets

This mascara comes in two shades – black and brown.

The packaging I have is different than what is available online, but I just received mine so perhaps they are in the process of updating it.

How To Use The Pixi Large Lash Mascara

Lol I always have this section but for a chunk of products it doesn’t really make sense.

You put it on like you would any other mascara 🙂

BUT if you’re wanting a bit more details – I typically wiggle the wand at the base of my lashes, and then blink while bringing the want to the tips of my lashes. Then I will focus on adding the mascara to the middle – tips of my lashes, and building it up there. I’ll fan out and separate my lashes as needed. That’s how I apply every mascara!

I get mascara on my eye lids with every single mascara I use and can’t ever figure out how to apply it in a way I like WITHOUT getting it on my lids. If you’re like me, simply wait for the mascara to dry – DO NOT try and wipe it while it’s still wet. Once dry, grab a q-tip and rub until it’s removed, it should flake right off of your skin and will minimally impact any eyeshadow you have on.

Pixi Large Lash Mascara Review

Going into trying this mascara it already had a few strikes against it. It was kinda a drugstore mascara (and if you read the intro you know that I’ve had bad luck with those.) As well as having the brush applicator, and I much prefer the silicone spiky looking one (does it have a name?? hopefully y’all know what I mean.) SO the odds were stacked against this mascara, and it definitely needed to be pretty dang good for me to like it.

Well. Color me impressed!

Didn’t end up hating the brush as much as I expected to. Worked well for applying product – not too much not too little. Easy to build up the product and still keep your lashes looking natural and in the right place. Didn’t clump!

One of the things I love about this mascara is just how buildable it is. It’s really a two in one kinda mascara because you can easily achieve a natural look or a more dramatic look depending on how much product you use.

For natural, only a few coats needed to define and give a little life to your lashes. But if you want a more dramatic look, you can really build up this mascara, and it never has clumped on me while doing so. The dramatic looks is still overall natural looking, which I love.

I would say it leans more on the natural end of the mascara spectrum, and if you’re really looking for BOLD dramatic looking lashes, this probably isn’t the formula for you.

ANDDDDD no flaking 🙌 no smudging either!

I also found that it was a pretty easy formula to remove. So far I’ve used my Pixi Hydrating Milky Cleanser to remove it and it’s worked really well without having to rub or tug at my lashes.

One thing I’ll say is that in the description is mentioned “one coat” or “one swipe” and you need way more than that. One would NOT be enough!

They also mention this mimicking false lashes, but I think we all know that no mascara can really ever look like false lashes. I wouldn’t say it does that at all, but idc cause I would never expect a mascara to. False lashes literally give you MORE lashes on top of the ones you’ve got, how could any mascara mimic that??? (thanks for coming to my ted talk on why no mascara brand should claim their product looks like falsies.)

Final Thoughts

Overall, this the Pixi Large Lash Mascara impressed me. I thought it was great how you could go natural or dramatic with this mascara, and just how buildable the formula was without even a hint of clumpiness.

This cruelty free mascara remains my absolute favorite of all time. But the Pixi Large Lash Mascara is a great affordable option that works really well and gives you beautiful looking lashes!
