I think at this point we’re all pretty familiar with razor subscriptions, and particularly Billie, since it seemed to take over all of my targeted ads for a while. After months and months of giving this a go, I’m sharing my honest review!
The best razor I’ve ever used is the Venus 5 blade, but I am trying to find both a cheaper and cruelty free option to use instead. My expectations are high though! I feel like nothing I use comes even close to the Venus, but I’m hopeful there is SOME other option out there!! Let’s dive in to see how the Billie razor compares.
Background on Billie
I’m guessing we’re all pretty familiar with Billie at this point! I’m not sure if they were the first razor subscription on the market, but they certainly were the first to really dive deep into marketing and all the sudden they were everywhere!!
Their ads resonated with so many because they highlighted their affordable razors, how they were shipped directly to you without having to think about it, and actually featured body hair! So many ads for razors were people shaving completely hairless body parts, so to show actual body hair and it being removed was refreshing and pulled so many of us in.
Their products do not contain sulfates, parabens, formaldehydes, GMOs, drying alcohols, synthetic dyes, fragrances, cheap foaming agents, unstable silicones or BHT.
They offer razors and handles (a variety of colors), shaving cream, makeup remover wipes, lip balm, dry shampoo, a razor travel case, lotion, and body wash. Not to mention super cute branding and packaging!

Billie Razor Review
I honestly feel like my review is a little complicated, because when I first tried the Billie razor I was not really much of a fan. I felt like it was scratchy and wasn’t too impressed, so I decided to try a few other razors out. I ended up forgetting to cancel my subscription though for a few months, so I have quite a stockpile of Billie razors sitting in my linen closet.
Then I tried the Athena razor, since I definitely was a fan of the subscription model. I liked it a lot more! Still slightly scratchy, but much less so. I held off on a subscription because I had all of these Billie razors to work through and we were about to start traveling for an extended period of time.
I brought my Billie razor along to my travels since I had all those replacement blades to use up (and I have the Billie razor travel case – which I looooove!!)
And now I’m confused why I ever thought I didn’t like the Billie razor???? Because I love it.

It’s not at all scratchy, although it is slightly once you’re on use number 5, 6, 7 etc (I really overuse my razors 😂)
It provides a clean shave, no razor bumps, and minimal nicks. What else could you want?
The price point is phenomenal!!! My beloved Venus razor is $24.49 for 4 replacement blades. That’s $6.12 per cartridge!!! Compared to Billie’s $2.25. Hard to beat that.
Is it just as good as Venus….well, no. Not off by much though. Something about the Venus razor just glides so effortlessly and makes it feel like you’re not even shaving at all. Never scratchy. Billie doesn’t quite work that kinda magic. However, it’s still a really solid shave, doesn’t irritate my skin at all, minimal scratchy-ness, and an incredible price point. AND OF COURSE is cruelty free!!! I love that I don’t have to think about it at all and it just arrives at my door! Happy to continue to use the Billie razor!
Also worth noting that cancelling or pausing your subscription is super easy to do. Once I finally remembered to cancel it was a few clicks and done. Sometimes subscriptions make it really tricky and confusing to actually cancel, but it was really simple.
Final Thoughts
While it doesn’t fully compare to my all time favorite NON cruelty free razor, the Venus Extra Smooth, it does a pretty amazing job and comes suuuuuuuuper super close.
Between the price point, smooth shave, and the fact that it hasn’t once irritated my skin, the Billie razor a winner to me. And it’s so affordable that giving it a try is pretty low commitment. Definitely recommend!
