I have heard some seriously rave reviews on the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint. I’m not a heavy foundation kinda gal, so I had high hopes this would give me some good coverage and cancel out a bit of redness, without being too heavy or cakey on my skin. Love that it’s formulated with hyaluronic acid, so I thought this would work well for my dry skin. Let’s dive right on into the review, shall we?

How To Use The Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint
Shake well before application. Apply to clean or primed skin. Using the dropper apply into palms, directly onto skin, onto a beauty sponge, or makeup brush . You can blend out either with your hands and apply like a serum, or with a beauty sponge or brush. Instructions from Sephora say to set with setting powder if you have oily skin, but I think everyone should set this product regardless of skin type.

Not going to lie, I had pretty high hopes for this skin tint. From the sunscreen, to the hyaluronic acid to the light coverage, I was definitely hoping this would work well for my dry skin and give me a bit of the light, natural looking coverage I was after.
Unfortunately, this did not work for me 🙁
My biggest problem with this is how dewy the finish it. Is isn’t even dewy it’s just wet! My skin was the most possible dewy a persons skin can be, and it wasn’t in a cute way at all. Like way way way too dewy for me. MUST be set with a setting powder, which of course makes the finish matte, and then I feel like what’s the point of using this at all?? I want a dewy and natural looking finish, but to use this I have to completely eliminate the finish by using a setting powder. Am I missing something? If you don’t set it it’s a completely unnatural looking wet finish, and I am not a fan.
I don’t hate the finish after using a setting powder, it just seems silly to use a dewy product but it’s so dewy that I have to eliminate all dewiness with the powder. Ya feel me?
Coverage is absolutely light, which isn’t a complaint, but just know they aren’t lying when they say that. I don’t mind the coverage, but just wanted to call that out. I felt like it evened out things a bit and didn’t have a problem with the coverage aspect at all. I use the shade 2-Tulum and it matched well for me. I thought coverage wise with the powder was nice.
It didn’t accentuate and dryness or texture on my skin, which is definitely a plus. I liked that it provided some SPF coverage. But that dewy finish is a no from me.
Also, throughout the day I needed to reapply setting powder to keep the dewy/oiliness in check, and by the end of the day it had broken up around my skin and mostly faded away.
In searching through the reviews on Sephora it seems like there are a handful of people who feel the same and don’t understand the high reviews, but then a good chunk of people who looooove it and it works so well for them.
If you’re wanting to try out the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint, hiiiiiighly recommend doing so at Sephora so if you aren’t a fan you can return it. Or ask for a sample to try out before purchasing!
Final Thoughts
Although I had really high hopes for this, it simply didn’t work for me. The light coverage was nice, but the finish didn’t work for my skin, and it won’t be a repurchase.
Planning to keep trying it though and see if I can somehow make it work. If my thoughts change at all I’ll update this! I’m planning to try this tinted moisturizer next, fingers crossed it works a bit better!
