Another Tula Skincare review coming atcha, and today we’re chatting about Tula’s Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel. If you read my previous Tula skincare review of their Aqua Infusion Oil-Free Gel Cream, then you know I recently picked up a bunch of Tula products to test out.
Being in the blogging world, I hear about them nonstop honestly, and had become quite curious if all these products lived up to the hype they constantly have.
This was probably the product I was most curious and excited for because as someone with acne-prone skin, I’m always looking for ways to deal with it. Yes, I do have and use my beloved Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser regularly, but sometimes I don’t want to be applying salicylic acid to my entire face.
I’ve noticed in the winter, that cleanser can dry my skin out a bit, so I wanted to find more of a spot treatment type of product where I can just apply the salicylic acid to the areas it’s needed.
A bit about Tula – they are a skincare with a focus on incorporating probiotics into each of their products. From Tula’s website, these probiotics are supposed to “help promote the look of skin’s natural balance, locking in moisture to leave your complexion more hydrated and reducing the appearance of inflammation.”
Tula products are cruelty free and formulated without “phthalates, parabens, propylene glycol, petrolatum, gluten, and mineral oil.”
I’m guessing it’s pretty obvious what the Tula Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel is supposed to do. Clear up current acne you’re dealing with, and lighten any dark marks left behind by past breakouts.
Ingredient Highlights (from Tula):
- 2% Salicylic Acid: FDA approved acne treatment
- Probiotics: clinically proven to calm the look of inflammation and soothe skin
- Azelaic Acid: fades marks left behind by past acne
- Willowherb & Hyaluronic Acid: hydrate the skin to prevent dryness & flakiness
After using the Murad Cleanser, I figured out that my skin responds well to salicylic acid. But, in the winter, the Cleanser seemed to dry out parts of my face a bit. So, I’ve been looking for a product to use as more of a spot treatment to concentrate the salicylic acid where it’s needed on my face, and give the other areas a break.
I had heard good things about the Tula Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel, so I was pumped to give it a try. I definitely was skeptical going in, because it sounded too good to be true, imo.
I’ve been using it for a few months now, and I can honestly say that I am SO impressed!
I unfortunately do still deal with breakouts, despite the fact that Murad has helped a bunch with them. They still pop up here and there, and I always get my trusty hormonal breakout right before that time of the month. (it’s so fun being a girl…)
Lately, in addition to using the cleanser, I’ve been using the Tula Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel to spot treat any areas necessary. I’ve been blown away by the results.
Each times I’ve used it on an active breakout, it’s gone away if not the first day, then definitely the second.
I recently had a big hormonal breakout, because it was about to be that time of the month. I always get one cystic spot on my face, that doesn’t fully heal until basically a month later. This time around, I spot treated with the Tula Gel. A week later, you’d barely know anything was even there!
Yes, there is still a mark on my face. But before, it was a breakout I’d be dealing with for like a week. Then it was a scab. Then it would flake off. Finally it would go flat and just be a red mark. Using the Tula Gel caused it to go from active breakout to red mark in the matter of a week.
I didn’t experience any excessive dryness or increased sensitivity, which typically does happen to me with spot treatments like this. So surprised!
I’ve had that experience using this every time, and I am SUCH A FAN. It’s caused the healing time to be a fraction of what it used to be, which means they’re healing so much faster.
My one and only complaint is I don’t love the pump. It sort of squirts out a little too much so sometimes I get it places I didn’t mean to. (Also, I’m sorry, but that’s what she said. Please tell me you were thinking it too 😂) But like if I’m trying to get some on the tip of a Q-Tip, it will often get into my sink instead. It’s just a little hard to control is all. Not a big deal.
Anyways. If you deal with acne, and especially if your skin responds well to salicylic acid, I highly highly highly recommend checking this out. I was SO skeptical going into using it, and for it to blow me away like this, means it’s REALLY good.
