I recently picked up a few face masks to try by Yes To at Target, and after using it for a little while, am sharing my review on the Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Mask.
The other Yes To products I grabbed were also face masks, and I have to say, their applicator game is on point. For all of the masks I grabbed, and ones I saw that I didn’t purchase, they all have applicators that make applying your mask as easy as possible.

The Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Mask has a silicone spatula applicator. You twist the tube, which then allows the product to come out. Applying is super easy, and product waste is minimal. It’s also very easy to clean up the applicator, so you’re not left with a gunky mess. A+ for that!
Now, to the mask itself. The Yes To Tomatoes line is geared towards acne prone skin, and as I’ve mentioned, I’m in the process of trying to clear up some acne.
From Target, “The Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Peel-Off Mask is formulated with naturally detoxifying charcoal and lycopene-rich tomatoes to help leave skin naturally clear, with a built-in YESblender Detox Applicator for hands- and mess-free application.”
The mask is formulated without parabens, SLS and silicones, and is Leaping Bunny Certified.
To use the mask (on clean and dry skin), you twist open to unlock and squeeze out the product. Then using the spatula, you apply a thick, even layer over your entire face, avoiding your eyes, hairline, and eyebrows. You may also want to avoid any other sensitive areas.
Then allow the mask to dry for 15 minutes, and clean off the spatula. Once dry, use the clean spatula to help you lift up the edges of the mask, and gently peel off. Rinse with water if any bit of the mask doesn’t come off.
So, I purchased the Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Mask before I read any reviews on the product. Highly suggest NOT doing that, and doing your research before you blindly purchase a product.
On the Target website, the average review for the Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Mask is 2 out of 5 stars, and it was rated over 120 times.
Many of the reviews state that this mask was extremely difficult to get off, and that the product did not flow evenly from the tube, making for a very difficult application.
I did not have either of those experiences, personally. I loved the applicator, as I mentioned before. And, I had no problem peeling off this mask. I think you may need to play around with how thick of a layer you put on your skin, and make sure it is 100% dry before attempting to peel. It may take longer than the recommended 15 minutes.
What I didn’t like, was that is majorly broke me out! I used this on my chin, which is where I typically deal with breakouts, and my nose, to hopefully draw out some blackheads.
I had 0 problem applying or removing this mask the couple times that I used it. However, I never noticed it clearing out any of my blackheads. My nose looked the exact same. That isn’t a deal breaker for me.
I used this on my chin when I was trying to deal with some active breakouts that hadn’t yet come to the surface, as well as ones that had. The 3-4 times I used this mask, it ALWAYS worsened my breakouts. They were irritated, and it seemed to break me out MORE that I had been already.
The first time, I thought this was a fluke. Even the second. But after using it 1-2 more times after that and having the same experience, I knew I wasn’t just imagining it.
Perhaps it was helping clear my skin by drawing impurities to the surface. But I have other products that help do the same thing without breakout me out further, so I’d much rather stick to them.
All in all, can’t say this product was a winner for me unfortunately, and I do not recommend.
I did notice that plenty of the other products in the Yes To Tomatoes line have great reviews, so I definitely plan to pick some of those up to try. I think I’ll grab the Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Face Mask and the Detoxifying Charcoal Paper Face Mask. Both of those have really great reviews!
Hopefully I’ll have a much better experience from the other masks of theirs I have, and with some of the other products in their Yes To Tomatoes line.
