Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy Review

The Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy was totally an impulse purchase for me about a year ago, but probably my best one yet. I was going through that phase everyone seems to go through now where you think coconut oil is just going to fix every problem in your life. Kopari swooped in with their coconut oil based products and cute packaging, and bam, I was sold.

The Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy

I have since moved on from slathering coconut oil all over my life, although still think it’s a solid oil to incorporate into your routine. Anyways, I started out with their Coconut Melt, which is just straight coconut oil. Still not totally sure how it’s different than a much less expensive version you could buy at the grocery store, but hey, at least it comes in a cute container.

I also at some point picked up their deodorant to try, and here is my Kopari Coconut Deodorant review. Long story short, not for me.

I actually really liked the Coconut Melt, and used it most often to either remove my makeup, or combine with my body lotion when I was feeling particularly dry (happens a lot.) Soon after was when I found myself “accidentally” adding the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy to my cart, and oops, I pressed confirm purchase.

I’m not really a lip gloss kinda gal, and am *extremely* picky when it comes to glosses. I have a select few that I absolutely adore, and then generally I hate the rest. Usually they just feel uncomfortable on my lips and I’m just not really all that into them. But when I love them, I reallllllly love them. Does that make any sense? Probably not.

I mainly love a gloss when it’s sort of a combo of a balm and a gloss. You’re getting that hydration and benefits of a balm, with a little bit of shine from a gloss. Ideal situation for me.

Here is a previous gloss I’ve reviewed that is one of my faves!

Three shades of the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy

From the Sephora website, the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy is a petroleum-free lip gloss, formulated with “100 percent organic coconut oil to leave your lips silky-soft and hydrated to perfection.”

“Use it to layer over your liquid lipstick for a smooth and non-sticky finish. This product can also be used as an eye or cheek gloss. It has the perfect slip and will love on lips all day and night.”

Also worth noting that the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy is vegan!

Ingredient Highlights (from Sephora):

  • Coconut Oil: Repairs and moisturizes skin, balances skin tone, and visibly improves pores with fatty acids.
  • Squalane: Derived from olives to lock in moisture as it hydrates and mimics skin’s naturally occurring omega fatty acids 3 and 6.
  • Shea Butter Triterpenes: Naturally derives from shea butter extract and contains anti-inflammatory properties to calm, smooth, and nourish lips.
  • Tocopheryl: Contains antioxidants to help your skin look fresh and smooth.

Completely agree with their description! It really does have the perfect slip to it. Not even one hint of stickiness. Gives your lips this best hydrated and cushioned feeling, whether wearing on its own or on top of a lipstick.

I don’t often wear it on top of lipstick, but it does layer really nicely. Especially does on top of a liquid lipstick, gives you a hint of shine, and some moisture back to your lips since sometimes liquid lipsticks can be a bit drying. Makes them more comfortable to wear, without messing up the color at all even when reapplying gloss.

I’ve never worn it on my eyes or cheeks, so I can’t really speak to that. Not my thing.

Original

The tube has lasted me a really long time, and I still am on my first one. That’s with pretty regular use too. The gloss itself has some pretty good staying power for being a gloss. I’ve used it as a nighttime treatment before and I can always feel it there in the morning.

The applicator is your typical slanted applicator, with a small hole in the center to disperse the product. Works just fine, no complaints there. I like that it’s a squeeze tube because I feel that I’ll be able to get every last drop of product when I get down to the end.

I loooooove the smell. Smells like sweet coconuts, and it’s divine. Smells so so so good. If you don’t like the smell of coconuts, you won’t be a fan though.

The shade Sangria of the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy.
Sangria

I have the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy in three versions: Original (clear), and then the Kiss of Coco Gift Set which has Birthday Suit (nude shimmer), and Sangria (sheer red wine). Both of those shades can be purchased individually as well.

Love all three! I probably use the clear more often, but love incorporating either shade as well. I think with the weather cooling down I’ll end up using Sangria a bit more. It gives your lips that bitten, stained kind of color. SO pretty, and perfect shade for the cooler months.

Birthday Suit gives your lips a hint of shimmer, without feeling gritty at all. Really pretty to layer over matte lipsticks, or just on it’s own. Again, just a hint of color.

It also comes in two other shades that I haven’t tried – Hibiscus and Pinkini.

I’ve seen some negative reviews of the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy, and the general complaint is that it’s not a hydrating enough balm for them. Which honestly confuses me because I personally think of it as a gloss, not a balm. Glosses generally aren’t made to hydrate your lips, they’re meant to add shine, with perhaps an added bonus of some hydration. The Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy does exactly what a gloss is supposed to do, with some extra added hydrating benefits.

On Sephora website, it’s referred to as a lip treatment and a gloss. On the Kopari website they call it a balm, and also call out how it’s non-sticky, which is typically something only talked about in reference to glosses, not balms. It’s confusing, so I understand where those negative reviews are coming from.

If you’re purchasing this as a balm, it might not be as hydrating as you want it to be. Although plenty of people claim that it is, and I also think that it is very hydrating. Basically it depends what your expectations are for this product, because it’s a little unclear exactly what this product is.

I think of it as a very hydrating gloss, and absolutely adore its formula. If my lips are really dry, I would not use this. I would never want my lips to be glossy when they’re extra dry, I feel like it would accentuate the dryness, especially if they were starting to crack. I would use a balm in that situation. But I would use this to maintain some moisture, and add some extra hydration when I want some shine to my lips.

I’m getting way to in depth about this, but I think it’s kind of confusing what this product exactly is so I wanted to address it.

Moral of the story? I love this! I think the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy is one of the best glosses out there. Extremely comfortable to wear. Leaves my lips feeling better after using it. Smells amazing. Perfect amount of slip. Not sticky. The different shades are really pretty, and add the perfect hint of color. Big fan. Highly recommend. The end.
