If you’re a fan of luxury beauty, chances are you’re familiar with the Sara Happ Lip Slip. It’s a lip balm that’s got some shine to it, sort of a hybrid of a gloss and a balm. But is it worth that price tag?
I picked this up when I was in the phase of my life where I was purchasing everything Makeup By Tiffany D (on YouTube) was recommending. She had some high praise for this balm, and it just looked so pretty on her, so that was enough for me to place an order
Sara Happ is a lip care focused brand. She carries a variety of lip products all focused on pampering your lips. I think it’s really cool how the brand caters to one specific body part. Makes me think that she definitely knows what she’s doing, and each product is going to be amazing, if she is remaining so niche.
Some of the other lip products in her line include a variety of lip scrubs, Sweet Clay Lip Mask, Dream Slip Night Treatment, as well as a few glosses. But even her glosses are formulated to leave your lips better than they were before you put on the product.
The Dream Slip Night Treatment is essentially a nightly mask for your lips. I’ve never seen another product like this on the market, so I think that’s pretty cool! Definitely seems like a good product to use in the winter when your lips are really dry and in need of intense hydration.
I personally find Sara Happ’s story of how her brand came to be very interesting, here’s a blurb from her website:
“Because in 2005, after reading “exfoliate lips with a wet washcloth or toothbrush” for the twentieth time, knowing I had a scrub for every part of my body but my lips, I decided I’d just have to make it myself. With nothing but mixing bowls, spatulas and a desire for a flake-free pout, I concocted The Lip Scrub.
A few incredible Los Angeles store owners and some unicorn-like celebrities believed in what I was doing. People magazine ran a story about this new thing called a “lip scrub” by this girl named Sara Happ. Immediately, my website crashed, thousands of orders flooded in, and I realized YOU were out there: Lip girls. Beauty junkies. Exfoliation enthusiasts.

So the Sara Happ Lip Slip is definitely a very popular product, and Sara KNOWS lips.
The Lip Slip is a very luxurious balm, and like I said, this hybrid between a gloss and a balm. A glalm? Bloss? Something like that. It gives you the hydration you want from a balm, but the pretty shine and hint of sparkle like a gloss.
Honestly I love this so much for a really simple reason: it’s pretty. That’s the gist of it. It feels really nice on the lips too, gives your lips this cushioned feeling, but mainly I just love how pretty it is!
It’s probably not my most hydrating balm. If my lips are in need of deep hydration, this is not what I turn to. It definitely is hydrating, but that’s just not the main way I use it if that makes sense. Although it technically is a balm, I use it more as a gloss.
It’s pink in the pot, but doesn’t have a tint or anything to it when you apply it to your lips. It adds just a hint of shimmer, definitely some shine, and enhances the natural color of your lips. It’s just so pretty!!
It has some bits of shimmer/glitter on it, but not chunky at all. I can’t feel it when I put it on so it’s not gritty on your lips.
I don’t really know how to describe the scent. It smells familiar, like something from my childhood maybe that I can’t put my finger on. But it’s basically a faint, sweet smell that you don’t notice at all once it’s on your lips.
My ideal makeup products are ones that enhance my natural features. Although I like to get done up every once in a while, on average, I keep it pretty simple and natural. This is the perfect lip product for those natural days. The “no-makeup makeup” days.

I’m definitely not the only one who is a fan of this product!
If you’re a gloss fanatic, I do feel like I need to say that this product is a little bit sticky. Not too bad at all, but there’s a hint of that happening. It’s barely noticeable to me, but if that’s something that really bothers you, you may not love that about this.
Now, let’s get back to that price tag. Is this worth it? I personally think YES (duh), for two reasons. One, I use this as a gloss and not a balm. I have less of a problem spending a little more for a gloss than I do your average lip balm. I’ve paid for lip glosses at Sephora that were the same price and never batted an eye (maybe I should have though…why is makeup so expensive???)
Two, and the most important reason, you get SO much product in this pot! Plus the fact that it is in a pot means you get to use every last drop of product, where it is typically much harder to do that when the lip gloss is in the tube.
When you break down the price per ounce, this is actually a much more affordable product than you might realize.

- Buxom Lip Gloss is $21 for .15 oz of product
- Marc Jacobs Lip Gloss is $28 for .16 oz of product
- Anastasia Lip Gloss is $16 for .16 oz of product
The Lip Slip is $28 for .5 oz of product! You’re getting over TRIPLE the amount of product per container. Basically this pot is going to last you a whiiiiiile, which to me makes the price tag a bit more justifiable.
ANYWAYS. The Sara Happ Lip Slip is a SOLID lip gloss, arguably my favorite? Idk if I can commit to that, but definitely in my top 5. I love how it looks and how it feels on the lips, and I think you will too! It’s also so pretty and luxurious that it would make a wonderful gift!
