As a curly-frizzy gal, I’m always trying to find products that will help either tame frizz, smooth frizz, stop frizz before it starts, or some combination of any of those. The Living Proof Instant De-Frizzer of course piqued my interest, so I had to pick it up to review!
Whenever I see an anti-frizz product, I am always very intrigued, but very skeptical. I feel like I have tried so many frizz fighting products over the years and rarely do they actually do much of anything. I inherited my frizz from my mom, who also hoards a collection of anti-frizz products. I’ve dipped into her stash many times, and yet to find the winner.
So, during a recent Living Proof promo, I picked up a can for me and my mom so we could both put the Instant De-Frizzer to the test.
If you’re not familiar with Living Proof, they are a brand that specializes in hair products, specifically ones that help to smooth your hair. Jennifer Anniston promotes their products, and obv she was the originator of #hairgoals, so you know their products must be pretty good.
Also, they have free shipping and free returns, which always is a huge plus for me.
They have this quick hair quiz you can take to help you figure out what hair problems you’d like to solve, and the right products to help you fix them.
From the Living Proof website, the Instant De-Frizzer a dry conditioning spray that is supposed to:
- Eliminates frizz by adding softness, smoothness and shine
- Replenishes hair’s natural oils
- Refreshes dull hair in-between shampoos
The Instant De-Frizzer is free of parabens, phthalates, and silicones. It provides UV protection, and is safe for chemically and color treated hair.
You apply this similar to how you would a hairspray. You hold the can out 6-10 inches away from your head and spray in sweeping motions to evenly distribute the product. Then, you smooth the product onto your hair using a comb or your hands, and you should be left with no frizz.
I honestly didn’t expect this to do much of anything, because my experience frizz taming products usually leaves me disappointed. However, I was pleasantly surprised!
When I let my hair air dry, even when I use curling products, I’m usually left with frizz all around my head. My frizz-halo, if you will. The hair underneath is frizz free, but the halo is always there.
So one way I’ve used the Instant De-Frizzer is to smooth out that frizz-halo that forms. I’ll spray it all over my hair and use my hands to smooth out all of the frizz. Now, is my head all of the sudden 100% frizz free? No, BUT so so so much frizz is gone. It really does make a difference, and one that lasts all day.
Another way I love using this is to touch up my hair, whether it’s my natural curls or if I have styled it in some way, after sleeping on it. I will wake up with some frizz and craziness, and this helps tame all of that and bring some life back into my hair.
This spray has also been great to use in the winter when my hair is staticky. That is 100% my least favorite part of winter, but my hair is very dry, and in the winter I am always dealing with static. This spray really helps a lot with that, without being too heavy.
I never feel like it weighs my hair down, no matter what way I’m using it. I have fine hair, and heavy products weigh my hair down very easily.
I don’t love the smell of Living Proof products personally. They are clean and floral scented, and I would rather something more sweet than floral. Flowery smells often give me a headache. Luckily, Living Proof products don’t give me headaches, and the scent doesn’t last very long.
Also, my mom is hooked on this spray! She uses this to refresh her hair, and has said how much she loves it. She says she loves it because it gives her some volume, while taming the frizz!
If you are looking to try, Living Proof offers a smaller size that is less expensive if you want to test it out before you commit to the bigger bottle. I have found that the big bottle is pretty long lasting for me, but I don’t use this every day.
Overall, I was so surprised how well the Living Proof Instant De-Frizzer worked, and I definitely recommend trying this product if you’re also a frizz-fighting kinda gal. Also recommend if you deal with static hair in the winter! It’s been really great for me for dealing with both of those issues, and I’m sure you will love it too!
