I am still on the hunt to find a natural deodorant that actually works, and doesn’t irritate my skin, so the next on my list to try was the Kopari Coconut Deodorant, and I’m going to share my review!

The natural deodorant by Kopari made with coconut oil.

Before I jump into it, I want to share a little about Kopari. First of all, hello cute packaging. I’m such a sucker for that, and it’s what I was immediately drawn to. Looks like summer in a bottle!

I love that they’re a natural ingredient based brand, with a big focus on coconut oil in their products. As someone with dry skin, I really appreciate their attention to nourishing and hydrating products!

Now to the Kopari Coconut Deodorant review! I had previously tried Native Deodorant, which didn’t work out for me. Not due to the actually effectiveness of the deodorant, but because it ended up irritating my skin.

I learned that baking soda is a common ingredient found in natural deodorants, and can often be irritating to those with sensitive skin, so I figured I should try to avoid it.

The Kopari Coconut Deodorant doesn’t contain baking soda! All the reviews I’ve read or heard about it is that it’s a seriously amazing deodorant, and works really well for a lot of people. On the Sephora website it’s been reviewed over 900 times, with a rating of ⅘ stars.

I was very hopeful about it! Also, one of my favorite bloggers, Lauren McBride, loved it and it worked really well for her. So, I had to try it out for myself!

For the first few weeks, I really loved it. I was actually so excited to share my review of the Kopari Coconut Deodorant because I thought I finally found one that really works without any irritation.

I shared about it on my other blog’s Instagram account because I was so excited to find a natural deodorant that WORKED and didn’t irritate my skin. Seemed like a few of my followers also really liked it.

It smells SO so so good! Sweet, but fresh, and not too overpowering. I felt like it lasted most of the day for me, and even if the scent faded away, I still smelled good at the end of the day. And trust me, that’s saying something. As an anxious person, I can get very sweaty (tmi? oh well), but this passed the anxiety sweat test for me.

It glides on totally clear and smooth without any residue left behind. Someone asked me since it’s coconut oil, if it left any oil stains on clothing, but I didn’t experience that at all, or any marks left on clothes. Also, I really liked the twist on top, so I never had to worry about the top accidentally falling off in my bag. Sounds like a winner, right?

Unfortunately, the more I used it, the more I realized I was starting to develop irritation. I initially thought perhaps it was a fluke, maybe it was caused by something else. Sometimes applying natural deodorant too close to shaving can be irritating, so I made sure to never do that. Still had irritation.

Sometimes people need an adjustment period to get your body used to a natural deodorant vs one with aluminum. During the adjustment, some irritation can happen, at least that is what I’ve heard. Often a detox mask is recommended. Although I never used a detox mask, I had been using natural deodorant for months, so I don’t think that was it.

I sometimes applied it after already being a little sweaty, and that seemed to really be the cause of my problems. So I made sure to only apply it when I was totally dry. That helped, and I thought my irritation was gone, but the more I sweat, the more I got irritated. If a deodorant is irritating me when I get a little sweaty, that’s kinda a big problem right?!

So, my review of the Kopari Coconut Deodorant is that it’s just not for me, and probably not for someone with very sensitive skin like myself. Before I developed any irritation, I did really like it and it worked so well for me. I still use it when I’m not irritated, and the irritation comes and goes. So, I’m a little conflicted about whether or not I recommend it.

I think if you don’t have sensitive skin, the deodorant might be worth a try. It does have great reviews overall, and has worked really well for many. But, if you have sensitive skin like me, you could end up with irritation like I did.

It comes in a variety of scents, including unscented if that’s your preference!

Also, only apply on dry skin. And it’s always a good idea to not apply immediately after shaving.

Kopari is still a brand I really like, and plan to try more of their products. Like I said, I really appreciate that they use high quality and natural ingredients, but this one just wasn’t a winner for me. Oh well, onto the next one!

Update – I have since found a natural deodorant that is truly *amazing* and hiiiiiighly recommend! Review here, shop directly here!
