I have been testing out the Jouer Essential High Coverage Liquid Concealer in an attempt to find something to replace my Shape Tape concealer. Although I love Shape Tape, it can be a bit drying and a bit cakey on my super dry skin, and so I have been trying to find something that still covers my dark circles well, without settling into any fine lines or accentuating my reptile-like dry skin.

Their beauty products all are so luxurious and luxe! I initially fell in love with their Long-Wear Lip Crèmes years ago, when I was deep in my liquid lipstick phase. They had some seriously beautiful cool toned shades, which sometimes can feel hard to come across, especially a few years ago. Warm toned everything!
Anyways, they had high quality products that I loved. I wanna say they originally started with just those lip products and a few other makeup products before further expanding, but I’m not quite sure.
Eventually they grew and expanded and are now available to purchase at Sephora! Their branding and packaging is on point, and they have some seriously stunning products.

It’s listed as being for normal to oily skin types. I personally have dry skin, and will dive into this further in the review below!

How To Use
You dab this on using the doe foot applicator lightly to any areas needing coverage. Then blend! You can build this concealer as well, depending on how much coverage you want/need.
I find it’s important with this concealer to go in with a very light hand and build up to the coverage you want versus applying all the concealer you’d need in one go. Helps with blending out evenly and reducing and creasing. Also helps with not adding too much which I do way too often!
Review
Although I do love the coverage that Tarte Shape Tape provides, I have been on the hunt for a concealer that covers just as well without being quite so drying. TBH, I don’t even know why I picked this one up because it makes no claims to be hydrating whatsoever….? I swear it did but apparently not.
ANYWAYS, after a few months of trying out the Jouer Essential High Coverage Liquid Concealer, I can definitely say that it is SUPER similar to all the positives that Tarte Shape Tape provides.
It is reallllllly high coverage. I am constantly putting on too much because I forget just how little you actually need in order to cover up whatever imperfection it may be.
Although it’s not a hydrating concealer, I definitely feel like this is a better full coverage concealer for dry skin. Much less drying than my experience with Shape Tape! It does have hyaluronic acid, which is typically an ingredient to help retain moisture in the skin, so perhaps that helps?
The Jouer Essential High Coverage Liquid Concealer never has looked cakey or accentuated any dry patches on me, which Shape Tape has. I also feel like I’ve dealt with less creasing with the Jouer concealer compared to Shape tape as well.
The Jouer concealer is much more lightweight so even though you’re getting full coverage, it’s not quite so heavy on the skin. Helps a lot with cakeyness and creasing!
It’s really easy to blend out as well, doesn’t dry down too quickly and so you don’t have to be stressed about working too fast with it. I have had success using either Sigma brushes or my Real Techniques Sponge.
I personally deal with dark under eyes and breakouts, and feel this has done a great job covering both of those and lasting all day! I haven’t ever worn this concealer without setting it with a powder, just fyi. Also has layered nicely on top of the few different eye creams I rotate between, and the color corrector I’m currently testing.
As someone who has off and on dealt with breakouts in my mid-late twenties (thank you adult acne), I haven’t found this concealer to ever break me out or make any breakouts worse.
Also, I’m in the shade Lace.
Final Thoughts
This Jouer concealer will definitely be replacing my Tarte Shape Tape! It’s equally as high coverage, easier to blend and work with, and not nearly as drying or heavy. It’s an easy swap to make!
Highly recommend if you’re looking to try out a high coverage concealer that is cruelty free and easy to work with! Also, I originally purchased the wrong shade at Sephora and it was no big deal to swap it out for a concealer that matched me. Sephora has a great refund policy!!
