Giving my review on the Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream today, and whether or not this pricey moisturizer is worth the adding into your skincare arsenal.
Now if you’re not already familiar with Drunk Elephant, they are a cruelty free brand at Sephora, and definitely one of the most popular. They are an extremely high quality brand, filled with clean, cruelty free, good for you ingredients, and that tends to come with a price tag.
I’ve heard nothing but great things about this brand, and had wanted to try it out for a while and see if these products were worth the cost.
Back in November, I grabbed a few Drunk Elephant skin care products during the Sephora sale to test out. I ended up getting the Protini Polypeptide Cream, Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer, Virgin Marula Antioxidant Facial Oil, and T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial.
A little about Protini according to Sephora, “Protini’s proprietary formula delivers revived, younger-looking skin, almost from the first application. Lines, wrinkles, and signs of sun-damage appear reduced, while depleted skin feels strengthened and moisturized.”
I finished an entire bottle of the Drunk Elephant Protini over the course of a couple months, so I really feel like I’ve had the time to fully form my thoughts on this moisturizer.
First of all, I love the packaging. It’s a pump, so your product isn’t being exposed to the air when you use it. Plus, it’s more hygienic than sticking your fingers in a jar every time you need to apply.
The pump dispenses the exact right amount, at least it was for my skin, but you can easily just not push the pump all the way down and get whatever amount you need. Also, the way the pump is designed, you get every single last drop of this moisturizer! Which is great since it is a pricey one.
The formula itself is more towards the gel side, but is definitely the most moisturizing and long lasting gel I’ve ever used. A lot of the time gel formulas absorb quickly, and then totally vanish from my face, but I could feel this moisturizer still hydrating my skin for the majority of the day.
It paired really well with the Marula Oil (both from Drunk Elephant and Instanaturals), and adding that helped Protini last even longer on my skin. If you’re not dry, you might not need to do this.
I think the Drunk Elephant Protini moisturizer would work with oily skin, normal, and dry, but probably not very dry skin. It’s lightweight enough for oily skin, while still being hydrating enough for dry skin.
Is it worth the price tag? In my opinion, yes it is. I really liked this moisturizer. Probably my favorite moisturizer I’ve ever tried, which is a pretty bold statement. I definitely plan to repurchase it in the future.
Thank being said, I do know it’s a very expensive moisturizer, and not everyone wants to immediately click purchase when you haven’t tried it yourself. With Drunk Elephant, I always recommend grabbing one of their littles sets, so you can try a smaller version of various products without having to make a huge investment.
Also, one of this year’s Sephora birthday gift options is a little Drunk Elephant set with the Protini moisturizer! And if neither of those are an option that work for you, go into a Sephora and ask to take home a sample of Protini! They always have little empty containers for customers to try out products.
Are you Drunk Elephant obsessed too? What are your favorite products from the brand?
