After using the Urban Decay Primer Potion off and on for over 10 years, I figured it was finally time to form an opinion and share my review here on the blog! Ever have products you can’t quite tell exactly how you feel? Well this was one of those for me, but I *think* I have figured it out!

This is an eyeshadow primer is formulated to provide an even base for your eyeshadow application. It creates a smooth canvas on your lids for your eyeshadow, helps to keep your eyeshadow shades vibrant, and make you stay crease free all day. It has a nude tint to it, but dries to an invisible finish.
This Urban Decay eyeshadow primer is vegan in addition to being cruelty free. It is also formulated without parabens.
It comes in a variety of shades and formulations depending on what look and benefit you’d like.
- Original – nude, invisible finish

- Sin – pink-champagne shimmer
- Anti-Aging – nude, color correcting + blurring. Comes in a mini.
- Caffeine – rich warm brown matte

How To Use Urban Decay Primer Potion
To use this eyeshadow primer, you either apply with the doe foot applicator, or squeeze from the tube and apply with your fingers. Either way, you blend out with your fingertips until your entire lid is covered and ready for eyeshadow application. You could also use a beauty sponge or brush to blend if you’d prefer!
I typically set it with a nude/cream eyeshadow, as a way to both set the primer and neutralize the skin a bit more, but it’s not necessary.
This can also be used to create your own cream shadow. Mix up your favorite powder eyeshadow with some of the primer and you’ve got your own cream eyeshadow that will last all day!
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Review
I have used the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion off and on for probably over a decade now. It was the first eyeshadow primer I ever used. I go back and forth between using this and trying other eyeshadow primers all the time. I think I’ve finally figured out how I feel about this primer after all these years!
It’s one of those products where you don’t know exactly how you feel about it until you use a different product. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes there are products where you just feel unsure or can’t quite tell what it’s doing when you use them. But then you use something else and realize it was really great! Has that ever happened to you?
I always knew I liked the Urban Decay Primer Potion, but would try out other eyeshadow primers all the time. In doing so, I’d realize that Urban Decay’s is so popular for a reason and worked really well for me!
It’s easy to apply and blend out. I typically apply some with the applicator to each lid and tap with my fingertips to blend it out. I found it works best when I set it with a neutral eyeshadow shade on top of it, but you definitely don’t have to do that. Then I apply my eyeshadow shades like usual!
When I don’t use this primer, or use a different one, my eyeshadow looks verrrrry different than when I do user the Urban Decay Primer Potion!
I have oily eyelids (but dry skin everywhere else. why tho??) so if I don’t use a primer or use one that doesn’t work well for me, my eyeshadow will crease big time and gather in the creases, bleed elsewhere, and fade throughout the day. Using the Urban Decay Primer Potion ensures that doesn’t happen! By the end of the day, my eyeshadow looks just as great as it did when I first applied it!
Final Thoughts
The Urban Decay Primer Potion has been a staple in the Urban Decay line for so long for good reason! It’s a solid eyeshadow primer!
If you have oily lids or notice your eyeshadow creasing or fading throughout the day, I really think you would enjoy this primer! Keeps everything in place all day and smooths out your lids for even shadow application!
