I recently picked up the Skinfix Lipid-Boost Jelly Hydrating Serum, plus a few other Skinfix products, on a whim to try out and review. Honestly, I wanted to try them out because I thought they previously were a drugstore brand, but now they were in Sephora with some not-so drugstore prices. I was very curious about that whole situation.

I found this article from Allure, which can be read here, that states how they updated their packaging to be more eco-friendly. Maybe that is the reason for the increase in pricing? The article has a line about how they are increasing their prices, but doesn’t go into why. I don’t think they reformulated products, but they did rename a majority of them.
A review on the Skinfix website for the eczema hand repair cream says, “Interesting that guidelines want me to refrain from saying price/retail specifics, but long story short it’s much more expensive now since partnering with a major retailer. We use 1 bottle per week, so the huge price increase has been noted.”
Sorry if you’re just here for the review, I’ve been so curious about the price increase and why no one seems to be talking about it. Anyways, let’s dive into the actual review on the Skinfix Lipid-Boost Jelly Hydrating Serum.
From the Sephora website, the Skinfix Serum is “a super-concentrated cream-jelly that delivers potent actives in a surge of moisture to hydrate, replenish, and nourish skin.”
Ingredient Highlights (from Sephora)
- Healthy Skin Lipid Complex: Helps to restore skin’s natural lipids and fatty acids for glowing, smooth, healthy-looking skin.
- Seaweed Hyaluronate Blend: Pulls moisture into the skin to create a smooth appearance.
- Peony Root Complex: Helps enhance radiance.
Also, this product is vegan!
Because this product was specifically formulated to treat and manage dry skin, I was very excited to try it. I have very dry skin all year round, and am constantly trying to find the right products that will help properly moisturize and hydrate my skin.
After using this product on a regular basis, and finish it, I can report that for this very dry skinned gal, it did not hydrate my skin enough.
It has a gel consistency, and applied nicely. But didn’t really seem to have much lasting power or hydrate my skin more than my moisturizer already was.
It didn’t irritate my sensitive skin, or break me out at all. I used this twice a day with 2-3 pumps per use in order to cover my entire face. I ended up finishing it pretty quickly for how expensive it was. I wanna say I full used it up in about a month – month and a half, somewhere around there. I thought there was still plenty in the bottle, but nope. You can’t see how much product is left due to the packaging. At $50 dollars, I feel like you should be able to have it last a bit longer than it did.
I think this is formulated to hydrate dry skin but in a lightweight kind of way, so if you have very dry skin like me, it won’t be enough for you. If you deal with occasional dryness in the winter, or have mild dry skin, perhaps the Skinfix serum could work for you.
On the Sephora website it has been reviewed 30 times, with an average rating of 4.8/5 starts, so clearly it’s working for some people!
I personally think this would only work for someone who deals with occasional and/or mild dry skin. If you’re looking for something to deeply moisturize your skin, this definitely isn’t the one for you.
I’m very curious how the other two Skinfix products will work for me. Fingers crossed I like them!
