Sharing my Farmacy Green Clean review here on the blog that I have been using for a few months now. This was actually the first cleansing balm I had ever used, and since they seem to be all the rage right now, I was excited to finally try one!

The Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm by Farmacy.

In case you’re not familiar with Farmacy, they are one of the brands at Sephora with the Clean Seal – basically they use all natural, clean ingredients and no sulfates, parabens, or silicones. They’re a vegan skin care brand with some seriously highly rated and raved about products.

The Green Clean is a makeup removing cleansing balm, featured on Allure’s Best of Beauty list. It’s a solid balm that you scoop out – it comes with a little tool, and melt in your hands.

It becomes like a oil and you rub that all over your face, removing every last trace of makeup. It’s non-irritating and gentle, while being very effective.

On Sephora, the overall Farmacy Green Clean review is that it’s amazing! It’s been reviewed over 2K times with a rating of 4.6 stars!

Ingredient Highlights (from Sephora)

  • Sunflower and Ginger Root Oils – melt even stubborn makeup (including long-wear) without stripping or drying skin.
  • Turmeric and Moringa Extract – help to remove impurities, sunscreen residue, and fight the effects of pollution.
  • Papaya Enzymes – naturally exfoliate pores.

My review on the Farmacy Green Clean from experience is that is really does remove every last trace of makeup. It’s super gentle, no irritation whatsoever. You use this on dry skin, and it melts effortlessly in your hands.

When you’re rubbing this all over your face, your makeup really does melt right off. No need for excess rubbing, which is important to me because that’s something that can irritate my sensitive skin. Even on more stubborn mascara.

When you add water, it turns into a light lather, and then rinses off clean. It does leave my eyes a bit cloudy, but not for very long. This sort of bothers me, but not enough to not use the product.

Also, it smells amazing! Sort of like limes, at least to me. You really don’t need much product, so I think it’s something that would last a good amount of time.

However, reading through some of the Sephora reviews, I’m left feeling a bit conflicted. It does say that it’s a clean brand on the Sephora website, and Farmacy boasts itself as only using clean ingredients. Yet one of the ingredients in the Green Clean is polyethylene, which is a micro-plastic. It’s used in various skin care products, often as an exfoliant.

I don’t know much about this ingredient, but I know excess plastic is rarely a good thing, and most often not too good for the environment. Also since it’s such a smooth balm, I don’t really understand why that’s even in there.

I personally don’t experience any exfoliation while using it, and I’m not using it for that purpose. I want it to be a gentle makeup remover, which it is.

So, do I recommend this product? Well from an effectiveness standpoint, yes it does work really well. But if polyethylene is an ingredient you’re choosing to avoid, then this definitely is not the product for you.
