After months of testing out this product, I’m sharing my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer review here on the blog. It’s deffffinitely high end and on the pricey side, so I will be diving into if I think it’s worth the price, and how it’s worked for me!
I picked this up when I saw a blogger using it and it looked so flawless on her skin! (I’m realizing now though that sometimes people just have really nice skin so any product will look good on top of it. Not because this product is bad, but it almost doesn’t matter how good or bad a product is on top of flawless skin, ya know?)
Anyways, it looked stunning on her, and I had been looking for a concealer to possibly replace my Tarte Shape Tape since that one is a bit too dry for me. So, I pulled the trigger and picked up the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer.
I had also heard that the Charlotte Tilbury Concealer was very similar to the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer which is deffff much cheaper, but unfortunately NOT cruelty free.
I was verrrry interested in this concealer and testing it out to see if it lived up to the hype, and resembled anything close to the Maybelline concealer, which used to be my absolute fave.

From the Nordstrom website, the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer is “an elastic-stretch concealer that goes on like fresh skin, creating the look of a smooth and re-textured complexion.”
“This concealer makes your skin look practically poreless, delivering full coverage inspired by airbrush techniques. Long-lasting up to 15 hours, it’s water-resistant and reduces the appearance of dark circles, pigmentation, redness, blemishes and imperfections while creating the appearance of firmer, lifted skin.”
It has a built in sponge applicator, which I think is the main reason people call this a Maybelline alternative. You twist up the bottom to push the product up into the sponge, and apply it directly onto the skin.
I honestly don’t love this applicator, but it’s not terrible. I never know how much product to twist up, and I’d rather twist less than more and have it overflowing through the sponge, so I feel like I have to push the sponge kinda hard onto my face to dispense the product. I feel like I really have to twist it a lot to get enough product to dispense.
I like how it actually applies the product itself, which is the important thing. It get a bit messy around the applicator though.
The formula is definitely thinner compared to Shape Tape, but still has really good coverage. I’d personally say it’s like a medium/not quite full coverage concealer, which works for me. Full coverage concealers never ever look good on me, doesn’t mix with my dry skin. I think the thinner formula lends itself more to dry skin.
I find this concealer works really well at covering up my undereyes and any blemishes or marks I’m currently dealing with. It blends out really easily and has a natural finish on the skin. I have been blending it out with either my Real Techniques Sponge or a Sigma Brush – F88 or F86, and think it blends out beautifully either way.
Lately the brushes have been my favorite, but the sponge works really well too. Side note – if you’re looking for brush recommendations, I have a post on my other blog on my Favorite Sigma Brushes!
I like that the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer is a bit more of a liquidy formula so you don’t have to worry about it drying quickly on your skin while you’re blending it out. That used to happen to me all the time with Shape Tape! I feel like the liquidy-ness (that’s a word right), of the Charlotte Tilbury Concealer is also why it’s SO easy to blend out.
Also, this concealer is reallllllly long lasting. Like there may have been a time where I accidentally fell asleep still wearing it (I know, cardinal sin), and I woke up the next morning with it still perfectly in tact. Lasts all day, and has for me even when I haven’t set it with a powder. Definitely has some serious staying power.
Although I do think it’s not as drying as the Shape Tape, it’s definitely still not as hydrating as my skin needs a concealer to be. I feel like it still looks a little dry and cakey under my eyes, especially as the day goes on. I do still really like it, but I think I personally need a concealer that has more hydration to it.
This concealer isn’t formulated to be particularly hydrating, so it’s not that the formula doesn’t live up to it’s claims. I just have skin like a desert.
So is it worth the price tag? Well first of all you definitely don’t *need* to spend this much on a concealer.
BUT, I think if you don’t have super dry skin like me it definitely might be worth it.
It’s a really good concealer, that is very long-lasting, with great coverage and a really pretty + natural finish. Even though it wasn’t as hydrating as I’d like, it’s still one of the best concealers I’ve ever tried. Also the tube itself has lasted me a really long time so far, and that’s with pretty frequent usage.
I personally haven’t found any good drugstore concealers, so I feel like that’s one item I have to spend a bit more on.
Also, if you pick the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer from Sephora or Nordstrom, they have an amazing return policy. You could test it out and if you realize it doesn’t work for you, return it no problem, even if it’s used.
